How to Play Gravity Run

Gravity Run has one control: flip gravity. Your runner rolls forward on its own — tap to switch between floor and ceiling, stay clear of every hazard, and reach the finish gate with all three stars.

Play Gravity Run

The objective

Reach the finish gate without touching a hazard

Every level is a horizontal tunnel with a floor and a ceiling. Your runner starts on the floor and rolls to the right at a fixed speed for that level. The checkered gate at the far end is the finish; reach it and the next level unlocks.

You never steer and you cannot stop. The whole game is choosing the moment to flip gravity so you are on the safe surface — or crossing between them — when each hazard arrives. Touch anything red and the level restarts from the beginning.

The game is free, runs in the browser, and needs no account. Open the game to play; use this guide for the controls, every hazard, and a walkthrough of all 18 levels.

Controls

One button, on any device

Every input does the same thing — flip gravity. Pick whatever is under your hand.

  • Phones & tablets

    Tap anywhere

Tap anywhere on the tunnel to flip gravity. The whole game area is the button, so your thumb never has to hunt for a control, and the layout keeps the tunnel above the fold in portrait.

  • Desktop

    Click or Space

Left-click the tunnel or press Space, W, S, or the up/down arrow keys to flip. A press made a split second before landing is remembered and fires the moment you touch down.

  • Shortcuts

    P · R · M · L

P or Esc pauses, R restarts the level instantly, M mutes the sound, and L opens the level select. The game pauses itself if you switch tabs.

The loop

Run, flip, dodge, finish

  1. 1

    The runner moves by itself

As soon as a run starts, your lime runner rolls forward along the tunnel floor at a steady speed. You never steer left or right and you cannot stop — the only thing you control is which way gravity pulls.

  2. 2

    Tap to flip gravity

Tap the tunnel, click, or press Space and gravity reverses: the runner falls up to the ceiling and keeps running upside down. Flip again to drop back to the floor. You can flip whenever the runner is touching a surface.

  3. 3

    Dodge every hazard

Spike strips, open pits, sweeping saw blades, and bolts fired down the lanes all end the run on contact. Be on the other surface — or mid-flip — when you reach them. A crash sends you straight back to the start of the level.

  4. 4

Reach the gate, grab the stars

Roll through the checkered finish gate to clear the level and unlock the next one. Each level hides three stars along the route; collect them all in one run for a perfect three-star clear.

Hazards

Everything in the tunnel that can end a run

Hazards are always drawn in red or orange, and each type arrives at a set point in the level order.

  • From level 1

    Spike strips

Rows of red spikes along the floor or ceiling. Be on the opposite surface as you pass. Long strips force you to run upside down for a while; short strips on alternating sides become zigzags.

  • From level 4

    Pits

Missing tiles marked with red edges. Roll into one and you fall out of the tunnel. You also cannot land on a pit, so a flip that comes down over a gap is a crash.

  • From level 7

    Saw blades

Spinning saws that sweep up and down a dotted track. Each saw keeps a steady rhythm, so pass on the side it has just left. Later levels pair saws running out of phase.

  • From level 10

    Bolts

Projectiles fired down the floor or ceiling lane toward you. A flashing orange arrow at the right edge warns you which lane is about to be hit. Switch lanes before it arrives.

  • From level 13

    Needles

Spikes on the floor and ceiling at the same spot. The only safe line is through the middle, so you must be mid-flip as you cross them.

Rules

The rules that decide every run

  • The objective

Reach the checkered finish gate at the end of the tunnel without touching a hazard. Clearing a level unlocks the next; all 18 must be cleared in order.

  • Flipping

A flip reverses gravity and is allowed whenever the runner is on the floor or ceiling, plus a tiny grace window just after rolling off an edge. You cannot flip again in mid-air.

  • Crashing

Touching spikes, a saw, or a bolt — or falling into a pit — ends the attempt. The level restarts from the beginning after a short burst; there are no lives to run out of.

  • Stars

Each level has three stars placed along one real route through it. A star only counts if you finish the run, and your best star count per level is saved.

  • Every level is beatable

Levels are checked by a solver that plays them with a larger hitbox than yours before they ship, so every tunnel — and every three-star route — has room for human timing.

Common mistakes

Why runs end early

  • Flipping at the last moment

Waiting until a hazard is almost under you leaves the runner close to the surface you are trying to leave. Flip earlier and land with time to spare.

  • Mashing the button

Extra presses mid-air do nothing except queue a flip for the moment you land — which may not be where you want it. One clean press per flip.

  • Ignoring the next hazard

Clearing one obstacle by landing on the wrong side of the next one still ends the run. Read the pair, not just the nearest piece.

  • Chasing stars too early

Detours for stars add risk. Clear the level once to unlock the next, then replay with the layout in your head.

Quick tips

Tips to clear more levels

A summary — the full tips page walks through each in depth.

  • Flip early rather than late. Landing a beat before a hazard is safer than threading it at the last moment.
  • Read two hazards ahead. Where you need to be after the next obstacle decides when to flip for this one.
  • Watch a saw for one full sweep, then pass on the side it just left.
  • An orange arrow on the right edge means a bolt is coming down that lane — move off it now.
  • For needles, flip just before the spikes so you are halfway across the tunnel as you pass them.
  • Clear a level first, then come back for stars. Knowing the layout makes a three-star run much easier.

Where you can play

Same game on phone and desktop

gravityrun.app runs in any modern browser with no app to install. Progress stays on the device you played on.

  • Desktop browsers

Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari run the game with no plugin. Flip with Space, the arrow keys, or a mouse click, and use P, R, M, and L for pause, restart, mute, and level select.

  • Phones and tablets

Tap anywhere on the tunnel to flip. The game area and HUD fit above the fold in portrait, the page does not zoom or scroll when you tap, and restarting is instant.

  • Progress on this device

Unlocked levels, stars, best times, attempts, and your sound setting are stored in local browser storage. They stay until you reset them or clear site data, and they do not sync between devices.
